“I call on States to do more to prevent enforced disappearances and bring to justice those responsible. To this end, I call on countries to cooperate fully with UN mechanisms. I also urge all States that have not yet done so to sign, ratify or accede to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.” — António Guterres, UN Secretary-General
Because I speak the truth, I was taken
Because I know their secrets, I was taken
Because I work against them, I was taken
Because I will not be fooled, I was taken.
The nation suffers when I am taken
A community loses its voice, when I am taken
A people lose hope when I am taken
A generation is denied, when I am taken
Against my will, I was taken
To silence my voice, I was taken
To keep me bound, I was taken
And now am weak for I was taken
I exist to live a life of purpose. If I can’t freely live my life, then why am i here?
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place.” Psalm 118:5
Today is International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. The UN is calling for a special attention to be paid to specific groups of especially vulnerable people, like children and people with disabilities. Human rights defenders shouldn’t be harrassed, relatives of these victims are in constant turmoil due to the absence of their loved ones, etc. Everyone deserves a right to freedom!
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – John 8:36
