Social Development Posts

I have always wondered why sports? Why do people so engaged and are passionate about sports? I realised that sport plays a has historically and important role in our society.

It is a powerful tool that strengthens social ties and networks as well as promotes solidarity and tolerance. It is also a powerful tool to promote peace, tolerance and understanding as it brings people together across boundaries, cultures and religions. You can see different ethnic people coming together to support a cause for the love of sport. On World Cancer Day @projectpinkblue organized a road walk and in previous years cycle races in support of cancer patients.

Its possesses values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline, respect for the opponent and the rules of the game which are understood all and these values can be incoroporated for peaceful coexistence, social and economic growth and development.

It’s used as a means of relief, relaxation and conflict prevention. Sometimes when people get upset or need to relax they engage in a sporting activity or when two communities are at war they resolve to settle in a sporting game.

According to the @unitednations Sport has proven to be a cost-effective and flexible tool in promoting peace and development objectives. Since the inception of the MDGs in 2000, sport has played a vital role in enhancing each of the eight goals, a fact which has been recognized in numerous Resolutions of the General Assembly. In the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sport’s role for social progress is further acknowledged: “Sport is also an important enabler of sustainable development. We recognize the growing contribution of sport to the realization of development and peace in its promotion of tolerance and respect and the contributions it makes to the empowerment of women and of young people, individuals and communities as well as to health, education and social inclusion objectives.”

Now everyone has a right to access and participate in whatsoever sport they decide to. If a girl wants to play football should she be stopped, discriminated or shamed? If a boy decides to do gymnastics classes should he be stopped?

What sporting activity do you engage in? Please don’t tell me you go the the gym! 😂 I tired volleyball that year, I also got involved in marching, but these days I really don’t understand myself!

P. S. This picture was a turn around moment in already, short lived but never forgotten!
