“Don’t go to bed unless you’ve made money!”
I looked at her in shock as I finished my assignment. I just started my first month in JSS 2. Does this mean I wouldn’t continue with my education? I had come to like my schoolmates and even got a place to play in the school band. Would I drop out and start selling things in the market? I know things haven’t been rosy at home but what does she mean?
Mum on seeing how perplexed I was called unto me and said “Son, everyday when you wake up always remember to work hard in a smart way.” Now pack up those books, and shower dinner is almost ready!
Whew! I breathed a sigh of relief!
Fast-forward to present times; I understood what mama said. The moment you wake up each day you are already spending money. The moment you get out of bed, wash your face, your car Water Company of Nigeria will be reading their meters, when you brush your teeth, pepsodent or colgate will be earning on you, or is it when you charge your phone PHCN will definitely not spare you! Your movement from the house to the office, school etc taxi and bus owners will be collecting their own share and reminding you of how tough the “change era” is prompting you to forget your “change” and when you get carried away into the social media world, telecommunication companies will be making money on you!
So before you get out of the house you have already spent money directly or indirectly. Let me not even talk about the rest of the day.
‘So if you are going to bed without making money’, how are you going to foot all these bills?.
