It was such an exciting and rare honor to be invited to co-facilitate a two-day training on Food Safety, Quality and Market Linkages organized by Trade Impact for Good (ITC) and implemented by Dahrah Global Limited.
I got to meet some farmers from Jere community in Kaduna State, where I interacted with them on post harvest losses as well as aid to procure solution. I was Assigned to head a team of farmers during the market visit and adequately interacted them to provide expertise and assistance in resolving issues. After the exercise, I collected feedback from participants and shared with the leadership of the training to improve content and delivery methods.
Through this event I learnt a lot on food safety. It’s one thing to have food but it’s another to secure the food properly to avoid complications. During the market visit, the farmers were taken round to see what their fellow colleagues are doing and what effective ways of doing it right. It was clear that some of them lacked proper hygiene maintenance. Some of the market traders blamed it on the government for providing small stalls, others complained on lack of assistance. In all, we educated the farmers that they are the ones that have a major role to play in presentation and packaging of their goods to attract customers.
