PERCEPTION OR TRUTH

Mar 25, 2018 || Sunday Sermon

Perception or Truth. The world deploys propaganda, the Church walks in Truth.

We must understand with the advent of social media we have entered a new age. The age of information warfare. Social media is being used as a social engineering tool for the purpose of the reprogramming of the mind at subconscious levels.

The same strategies a politician deploys to win an election cannot be embraced in the kingdom to advance the purposes of God.

A politician’s campaign is basically built on popular opinion while the prophet’s mandate is based on what God said to him. A prophet is concerned with meeting the actual needs of the people with the power of God and not just following the latest trends in society.There are times where the mandate of a prophet will coincide with the general trend among the people but a true prophet’s mettle will be frequently tested when God will ask him to do what is not popular and it may affect public perception of him.

A prophet who is therefore focused on the public’s perception will err from the way of God. If his major concern is to be well thought of by people at all times, he will have to disobey Christ to achieve that.

A prophet must also understand that a public campaign waged against him cannot affect the fulfillment of his God-given assignment provided he responds to the negative campaign in the way the scripture stipulates. He must understand that obedience to God in everything is the winning strategy.

This is why I have never agreed that a ministry should deploy principles of image laundering for the purpose of image laundering is to win over public opinion and do everything to always remain favorable in the eyes of the general public which Jesus said is not possible if you want to walk in the prophetic.

Luke 6:26 “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.”

Obedience to God is what is required for if we obey in secret, God will one day reward us publicly.

Saul disobeyed God but asked Samuel if he could honour him by appearing with him before the elders as though nothing had transpired so as to create a perception among the people that all was well even though he knew what God had just said to him. You can see the error of Saul, public perception was more important than God’s instruction.

Truth is you will never walk in the love of God if you are concerned about your image for you will not identify with a person who is going through things if it will affect public perception about you. If Jesus thought this way He would never have gone to the cross to identify with us. Identifying with us where we were amounted to being stripped publicly and flogged like a thief. How many of us will risk our reputation and image to save another minister in trouble?

Image laundering tactics will destroy true Christianity. It is anti the love of God. Jesus made Himself of no reputation and was obedient even unto the death of the cross and God for this highly exalted Him and gave him a name. A good name is important but the method through which we secure this is by obedience to God.

Philippians 2:7-8

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Luke 6:26 “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.”

To get all men speaking well of you cannot be the goal of a prophet. He must understand how to subdue the accusations and verbal assaults against him in prayer so as to keep the atmosphere conducive for the advancement of his God-given assignment.

Paul teaching said this matter called ministry is with good report by some and evil report by others. It is that we appear as deceivers to some yet being true to others.

2 Corinthians 6:8

8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

Saul’s big mistake was in attempting to follow the popular trend when walking with God. God frowned at this asking him where all the men he was trying to appease were when He called him while he was “nothing” and raised him up and gave him visibility. Saul lost his position by fashioning his decisions according to popular opinion.

1 Samuel 15:22-24 (KJV)

22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

It is true we must endeavor to provide things honest in the sight of men but these things must first be honest in the sight of God. When God asks us to do a thing we must with wisdom conduct our affairs in such a way that we do not give room for the name of the Lord to be blasphemed. This is however done as we first receive instructions from God.

Our security is in obeying God. No public campaign can destroy an institution which is founded on obedience to God and responding rightly to the voice of accusations.
